Volcano Art Center Gallery

Volcano, Hawaiʻi Volcanoes

A Historic Gallery of Island Art Inside the National Park

7.7/ 10
Good to go

The Volcano Art Center Gallery sits inside Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park near the Kīlauea Visitor Center and shows furniture of native woods, hand-blown glass, jewelry, paintings and photography by island artists; its site says it has been voted the best gallery on the island year after year. It is open daily 9 AM to 5 PM, and the gallery's current exhibition, The Shape of Water (ceramic sculpture by Stephen Freedman), runs from October 3 to November 15, 2026. The art center also has a Niaulani Campus office and mini gallery on Old Volcano Road, open weekdays 10 AM to 4 PM.

The art center's pages do not state a gallery admission price, so none is given here; park entry is separate ($30 per vehicle). The Kīlauea Visitor Center is closed for renovation until late 2026, so allow time for the temporary Welcome Center at Kīlauea Military Camp.

Why Roamwise recommends this

A comfortable indoor stop while you're in the national park — useful on a wet or smoky day.

Best for: art browsing, souvenirs from local artists, a break between volcano hikes.

Insider tip: the gallery is inside the park, so you'll pay park entry; combine it with a hike to make the fee worthwhile.
