Difficulty
Good to go

Kona Boys, at 79-7539 Mamalahoa Highway in Kealakekua, runs guided kayak and snorkel tours on Kealakekua Bay and is one of the few companies the state permits to guide kayaks there (the state parks page lists Kona Boys and Adventures in Paradise). Its Morning Magic tour checks in at 7 AM and includes snorkel gear, a guide, a safety talk, a local lunch and drinks; its Midday Meander checks in at 11:30 AM and includes gear and a guide. Both tours list all ages, and check-in includes a review of conservation-district rules.

Prices on its site: Morning Magic from $249.99 for adults (19+) and $229.99 for children 18 and under, about 4.5 hours; Midday Meander from $169.99 and $129.99, about 4 hours. The operator says the morning tour lands at Kaʻawaloa and visits the Captain Cook monument, while the state park page says permitted vessels cannot land at Kaʻawaloa flat — confirm what your tour includes when you book. Booking is through the company's online system; the cancellation policy is not on its pages.

Why Roamwise recommends this

A well-regarded way to reach Kealakekua Bay's snorkeling and the Captain Cook monument area without paddling on your own.

Best for: confident swimmers, snorkelers, a half-day on the water with a guide.

Insider tip: book the morning tour for calmer water, confirm whether the monument landing is included, and keep at least 150 feet from dolphins as required.
