7.3/ 10
Difficulty
Good to go

Maui Nui Botanical Gardens (MNBG), at 150 Kanaloa Avenue in Kahului across from War Memorial Stadium, is a five-acre garden focused on native Hawaiian and Polynesian-introduced plants, with a seed bank and conservation programs. It is open Tuesday to Saturday, 8 AM to 4 PM, and closed occasionally for bad weather and on Hawaiʻi state holidays. Admission is $10 for adults, free for children under 12 and members, and free for Hawaiʻi residents with ID; a free cellphone audio tour covers more than 102 species, and a printed plant guide is also available.

The tours page confirms self-guided visits only for the general public, with school group tours at $2 per student. The site posted no current closure notice (an earlier post noted a Saturday closure on September 26).

Why Roamwise recommends this

A modest, cultural garden stop in Kahului — useful for learning about the plants Hawaiians relied on.

Best for: plant and culture lovers, a short weekday visit, a rainy-day walk with an umbrella.

Insider tip: it's closed Sunday and Monday, so plan Tuesday to Saturday, and use the free audio tour.
