Maʻakua Ridge / Papali Trail
Kāne'ohe to Windward / Toward North Shore
Maʻakua Ridge (also known as the Papali Trail) is one of Oʻahu's premier backcountry ridge
hikes. Beginning near Hauʻula, the trail climbs through dense rainforest before following a long
ridgeline with spectacular views of the Koʻolau Mountains, Windward coastline, and surrounding
valleys.
Unlike nearby Hauʻula Loop, this is a longer, more remote hike intended for experienced
hikers. It eventually connects toward higher ridges used by advanced backcountry hikers and,
historically, portions of the Koʻolau Summit Trail. Hawaii DLNR
