Mokulēʻia Forest Reserve Access Road
North Shore Oahu
The Mokulēʻia Forest Reserve Access Road is not a traditional hiking trail—it's a long paved
forest access road that serves as the primary gateway into the Mokulēʻia Forest Reserve and
the upper Waiʻanae Mountains.
Many hikers, runners, cyclists, backpackers, and campers use the road itself as a workout or as
the approach to destinations such as:
● Peacock Flats
● Mokulēʻia Trail
● Three Corners
● Kuaokalā Trail
● Pahole Natural Area Reserve
The climb is physically demanding but technically straightforward, making it one of Oʻahu's
premier endurance routes.
Why Roamwise recommends this
The Mokulēʻia Forest Reserve Access Road is the primary gateway into Oʻahu's remote
northwestern backcountry. While the paved climb is a rewarding endurance hike in its
own right, its real value lies in connecting hikers to Peacock Flats, Mokulēʻia Trail, and
the wider Kuaokalā trail network. Because access conditions can change after storms,
Roamwise should display live status updates and clearly distinguish between pedestrian,
bicycle, and vehicle access.
