Puʻu o Hulu is located above Māʻili on Oʻahu’s west side. The hike follows a dry ridge toward several historic military observation bunkers, including the famous Pink Pillbox, which has become one of the island’s most photographed viewpoints.

Compared with other pillbox hikes:

● Less crowded than Lanikai ● Drier and hotter than Windward trails ● Better sunset views than many east-side options ● More rugged terrain than its short distance suggests

•This is one of the best sunset hikes on Oʻahu.
•Bring more water than you think—you will feel the heat quickly.
•Wear shoes with traction because loose rocks make descending harder.
•Avoid hiking midday.
•Stay after sunset only if you have a flashlight/headlamp.
•Do not climb on the edges of pillboxes for photos.
