Waimano Trail

Central Oahu / Honolulu Mauka

9.1/ 10
Good to go

Waimano Trail is one of Central Oʻahu's most rewarding backcountry hikes, descending deep

into Waimano Valley through lush rainforest, towering eucalyptus groves, and dense tropical

vegetation before reaching a series of beautiful freshwater pools and waterfalls. Unlike many

hikes on Oʻahu that climb to a summit, Waimano begins with a downhill journey—meaning the

most physically demanding section comes on the return hike.

The trail offers a true wilderness experience with river crossings, waterfalls, bamboo groves,

native forest, and panoramic ridge views. Because of its length and elevation change, it is best

suited for hikers with moderate fitness who are comfortable with uneven terrain.

Why Roamwise recommends this

Waimano Trail is one of Oʻahu's premier rainforest adventures, combining lush jungle

scenery, freshwater waterfalls, swimming holes, and a rewarding backcountry

experience. Hikers should come prepared for stream crossings, muddy terrain, and a

demanding uphill return, but those who do are rewarded with one of Central Oʻahu's

most scenic valley hikes.
